The embassy said in an emergency message to U.S. citizens that unspecified groups are using online social networks to organize demonstrations in front of the embassy Wednesday...

Egyptian demonstrators climbed the walls of the U.S. Embassy in Cairo today and pulled down the American flag to protest a film they say is insulting to the prophet Mohammad. ...CNN adds that the embassy had been expecting a demonstration and cleared all diplomatic personnel earlier from the facility.

US calls for 'cooler heads' in China-Japan islands row
The US has called for ''cooler heads to prevail'' as tension intensifies between China and Japan over disputed islands in the East China Sea. China sent two patrol ships to islands - known as Senkaku in Japan and Diaoyu in China - on Tuesday. This came after Japan sealed a deal to buy three of the islands from their private Japanese owner.

The US ambassador to Libya has died after an attack by militiamen on the US consulate in the eastern city of Benghazi, Libyan officials say. Ambassador Christopher Stevens is said to be among four US officials killed in a protest over a US-produced film that is said to insult the Prophet Muhammad.
